Update: May 14th End

Here's our new crest...

Masters 2010 will run May to July - $120 per Player

March 2, 2010

Whether you haven't played lacrosse before or haven't played in a long time, DO NOT WORRY! We invite ALL Masters (we're the only Master's lax in town). If you're an out-of-towner, drop us an email and join us biodiverse@accesswave.ca.

Players - Those 22+ years old with NO lacrosse experience, WE WANT YOU! - About half the 2009 league was made up of new players.  Those 30+ years old, WE WANT ALL OF YOU!   Ladies - Show the boys how its done!  Twenty-five percent of the players were female in 2009, including a goalie (We will consider any female player over the age of 18, regardless of experience, as no Junior program exists at this time). Goalies - Gear will be provided, but you will need to bring your own helmet/mask and cup. A FREE Try Lacrosse session will be held again this year, check back regularly for date/location updates.

There is NO stick or body contact in these games, therefore:

You don't need a lot of fancy gear: helmet with mask, gloves, cup, stick, shorts and running shoes. For new players, we bring along extra sticks, but you'll find that as you grow to love the game, you'll want your own stick and lacrosse gloves. Cleves and T. Litzen have started to carry a range of gear and don't forget to regularly check kijiji.

The season will run from May to July and cost $120 per player (Registration Forms) when you pay by cash or cheque, or $130 to register online to pay by credit card. We are anticipating four teams with 15 to 20 registered players per team, so space is limited. Registration before April 30th will help you secure a place.

League games will be held at Shannon Park Arena every Sunday afternoon/evening between 5pm - 7pm. If a four team league is established this year, which would cut down practice time, then additional time will be made available during the week or weekend to practice.

Registration includes weekly game from May to July, a jersey (return at season's end), practice time and balls. Special events include Garnet Knight and Lobster Trap tournaments, where we get to show the crowds our fantastic skills and play during exhibition games. As with the 2009 season, a tailgate party will be held after the final Championship game.

Those interested: Email your Name, Email, Phone, Age, Years playing Lax, Right or Left Handed info to biodiverse@accesswave.ca.

This is a FUN league!!!

This bunch of guys and gals just want (need?) some activity and love playing a really FUN game, where the only thing on-the-line is, "when do I get back on the floor?"

For hockey and basketball players, lacrosse is the perfect off-season sport to keep up conditioning and many skills translate back to those sports. That's why many Pro NHL players have lax in their background like Gretzky, Orr, Howe, Gilmour, Coffey, Roberts, Sakic and many more.

Quote from Wayne Gretzky

"When I was growing up, I used to love this time of year. It was when I put my hockey equipment away and I was absolutely ecstatic to see the end of the hockey season...I could hardly wait to get my lacrosse stick out and start throwing the ball around...All the good hockey players seemed to play lacrosse in those days and everyone of them learned something from the game to carry over to the other..."

All goaltender equipment worn above the waist (except helmet and gloves) must be fully covered by the sweater.  Sweaters must conform to the body of the goaltender (no extra material under the arm) and not to exceed past the inseam. (If you don't have a jersey, lets talk)

There will be no stick measurement

 Penalties and Violations

The first player to a loose ball along the boards is awarded possession.

The ball carrier may not run past more than ONE player while ADVANCING TOWARDS THE NET.  This does not pertain to lateral movement across the floor.  Loss of possession will occur on any infraction of this rule.

Team in possession retains possession for restart after stoppage for ANY injury.

Face-off:  Only the players facing off may step into either of the face-off circles before the ball leaves the LARGE circle, or is in possession of a player.  Face-off players may not kick, hit hold, or step on the stick of an opponent.  Face-off players may not PIN the ball in either circle.  Non face-off players reach into the circles for the ball, but must not play the stick of either face-off player.

After a penalty of one player, play shall resume with the non-offending team possession at centre.

DANGEROUS SHOT RULE; No deliberate hard shots are to be directed through a crowd.  Loss of possession will occur.  Players are encouraged to go around an opponent before shooting.  A player moving towards the net must be a step around the defender before attempting to shoot and must have a clear shooting lane to the net, if the shooter is stationary the shooter must be a body length away form the defensive player and must have a clear shooting lane to the net. This rule pertains only to outside the Dangerous Shot line (24ft) dotted line

Any offensive player hitting a defensive player with the ball on a shot towards the goal will be assessed a 2 minute penalty.  NOTE:  It is not a penalty if the defensive player is hit while he is in the crease, or if he makes a deliberate move to stop the ball.

Within the Dangerous shot line (24ft) dotted line, the “shooting through the crowd/dangerous shot rule (17) does not apply

There is absolutely NO DELIBERATE BODY CONTACT.

i) No Offensive or Defensive picks which result in heavy contact.

ii) No Defensive player bumping opponent on the way to the net or pushing him with his hands.

THESE ARE EXAMPLES ONLY, NOT ALL INCLUSIVE.  ALL DELIBERATE CONTACT FROM ANYWHERE ON THE FLOOR WILL BE PENALIZED.

An interference penalty will be assessed to any player who deliberately holds his stick in the face of an opponent.

Any follow-through from a shot is a minor penalty.  In the event of a follow-through penalty after a shot, any goal scored WILL NOT count.

Any unsportsmanlike penalty will result in a penalty shot.  Player does not go to box but the penalty will count towards the 3-penalty expulsion.  If no goal is scored on the penalty shot possession is awarded to the non-offending team at center.

No team will be more than one player short as a result of a penalty.  In the event of a second penalty there will be a penalty shot awarded.

Any penalties on a player during a breakaway shall result in a penalty shot.

Any player receiving a MAJOR penalty shall be expelled for the remainder of that game PLUS the game following.  Any player penalized for fighting and deemed the aggressor, will be expelled from the game and suspended from the Masters League for a period of one year from the date of the incident.
